I'm a Big Old Sap

You probably don't want to read this if you haven't seen (or read) The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Last year when I saw the previews for The Chronicles of Narnia, I experienced a childish glee that all but had me bouncing up and down saying, "I wanna go see it, I wanna go see it!". I haven't read all of the Chronicles, but I remember way back when, some time in grade school, when this particular book was required reading for us.

We're not big movie theater-goers - I think the last movie we saw in the theater was Spiderman, so it's been awhile. I would have paid the 8 bucks to see Narnia in the theater, but since it came out around the holidays, we never got the time.

I finally saw it on DVD tonight, and wow, what a great movie. Lucy was positively charming, and she constantly made me smile. Tilda Swinton as the White Witch was absolutely perfect. I don't think anyone could have played that part better. And for goodness sakes, I actually cried when they killed Aslan. I knew it was going to happen, I knew he'd be back, but still I motherfucking cried.

The special effects were gorgeous, maybe with the exception of the wolves - they looked a little funny, but everything else was just stunning. Aslan, the eagles, cheetahs... the beginning of the battle when the two cats jumped in the air and attacked each other was amazing. But I still see Aslan, when he was walking up the path to the stone altar, with all the crowd around him - just the eyes alone were phenomenal.

I'll tell you, this movie has surpassed many of my previous favorites. If I'd watch it again, I'd probably still cry. Any movie that can make you feel that kind of emotion is definitely a keeper.
