Forecasting the Weather in PA Dutch Country

Since I was a kid, I've always heard, "If the cows are laying down, it's going to rain." And I swear it's true. Every time I see cows laying down, it'll rain either that day or the next.

We don't own cows, but living where we do, there are a lot of farms around. I passed a farm while driving to work today, and about three-quarters of the cows were laying down. Well, of course, it's supposed to rain tomorrow. When I got to work, I mentioned it to a guy I work with and he gave me a puzzled look. "Don't they lay down when they sleep?", he asked. I kind of laughed then realized he was serious, so I had to go into the explanation that cows sleep standing up and about cow tipping and blah blah blah.

"But you said a quarter of them were standing up!", he said, "Are they confused?"

I promptly replied, "No, that means there's only a 75% chance it's going to rain!"
