Save A Schnauzer

A woman I work with told me today she's adopting a pomeranian she found on Petfinder.

I haven't been to Petfinder in a while, mostly because I want to adopt every single homeless animal I see. I did a search for schnauzers and it nearly broke my heart. I came across a cute little guy named Chance at the NJ Schnauzer Resuce Network in Bridgewater, NJ, and I just started blubbering. This is part of what I read:

This won't be one of those poetic, "cutesy" posts about a Schnauzer looking for a home. Instead, it's a very sad story about a Schnauzer named Chance who is looking to become a part of a family. Chance's last home was a dog's personal hell. His surviving is a miracle in itself. For most of his 5 years, Chance was left alone, unattended, chained outside. He was fed only when someone remembered, his water bowl filled only when he cried for it. He faced the elements -- blazing heat or frigid cold -- alone. Most nights, we know for a fact Chance was scared out of his mind. The reason we know this is because even now, after being rescued by people who won't allow anything awful to happen to him again, Chance is still fearful of the dark. Only heaven knows what happens to a 15 pound dog who's alone, hungry and thirsty -- helplessly tied to a tree in the dreaded dark.

Why do people even bother getting a dog if they're not going to give it affection and let it be part of the family? I either want to cry for the dog or beat the hell out of the morons who treat an animal like that.

I just wish I could do something, I just don't know what.

There are loads of animals that need homes, but here's a national search I did for schnauzers. If anyone in my extremely limited readership is looking for a pet, give one of these little guys a chance.
