Vacation - Only Two Days Away

Technically, I'm already on vacation, I guess. I have the whole week off from work, and we're not leaving for Ocean City until Wednesday.

This is the sixth year we've headed down to Ocean City (MD). There's a huge car cruise the week before Memorial Day, so Dave cleans up the Nova and we head down. The trip usually involves a lot of stopping and looking at cars, like Dave in the photo - while I'm looking around like "Oooh look at the pretty colors!". I'm not really a car enthusiast, but hey, it's a couple of days at the beach, so I'm not going to complain.

At the moment, I should be going through the bathroom cabinet, yanking out the sunscreen, soap and toothbrush holders, and other assorted things we'll need for the trip. Last year I was packed and organized the Sunday before we left. This year - nope. Mostly because I'm bummed that the weather doesn't look like it's shaping up to be that great. It always rains at least one day when we're down there, but this year there's a chance of rain almost every day. In addition to the forecasted rain, the temps are only supposed to be in the low 60's, so that's going to involve packing both semi-warm and cold weather clothing. The first year, we made the mistake of saying, Oh, it's going to be in the 60's, it's going to be GORGEOUS!" Yea, maybe 64 and sunny is gorgeous, but 64 with driving wind and rain absolutely SUCKS. If I want a reminder, I just have to look at the video we took that year - I'm shivering so hard the video looks like something from the Blair Witch Project.

Last year was somewhat of an anomaly - it was 80+ degrees and sunny, and we were positively baking. But I'll take that over the forecast the way it looks now.

Overall, though, I'm excited to go - I can usually feel the proverbial "unclenching" start shortly after we hit the road. Hopefully I won't forget to pack socks and underwear.
