Poker Night - April
All in all, I didn't do too bad.
Right. I'm just trying to be optimistic about the whole thing. After all, it's just a game.
Out of 14 people, I finished fourth. Doesn't sound bad, does it?
I'm a little bummed, though. We recycled the $100 I won last month and kicked in another $20 so both Dave and I started with $60. First prize this month? $400!!!! Mama's gonna pay the oil bill!!!
This month, though, there were two tables since there were so may people. Dave and I started out at the smaller table. Those of us at that table affectionately nicknamed it "the short bus". We were having a great time, though... joking and laughing - and it helped immensely that I was cleaning house. I was getting great hands. Dave wasn't faring so well, though - he just wasn't getting the cards. I think he may have gone out close to midnight.
Shortly after that, there were enough people out that we all went to the "big table". I was sporting two trays of chips at that point - probably near $100 alltogether. I was feeling a little gun-shy, though because everyone at that table had a nice stack of chips. I was still playing well, and before I knew it, I had the biggest stack at the table -two racks plus several stacks of $1, $2, and $2.50 chips. Probably a little upwards of $150, I'm guessing.
The betting structure was changed for this game, though, in hopes of getting a winner before dawn Sunday morning. Interestingly enough, this game went later than last month's. I was doing great, and then around 2AM, Dave started dealing. He said he wasn't doing anything anyway, he might as well deal for us. My streak ended. I got shitty hand after shitty hand. I was getting nothing!!! I couldn't find a good hand with two hands and a flashlight. 2-7 offsuit, 4-5 offsuit with no help on the flop... contstantly! Even when I had good cards I got hosed! Hell, I lost on three of a kind to a guy who went all-in and got a fucking low inside straight on the fucking river! What the hell is that?
And I was getting tired.
It was nearing 5AM. I could barely see straight. The $400 first prize was becoming very fuzzy. It was getting harder and harder to focus on the cards. My legs were going numb from sitting for so long. I was hungry, and my mouth felt like I licked an ashtray. At this point, we were playing for about 10 hours. And there were four of us left. The big blind was up around $6.75 at that point, and I saw I still had a full rack of chips - unfortunately for me, they were mostly quarters. And the blinds were about to go up. Fuckers. Right before 5, I got the best hand I had in about 2 1/2 hours - a motherfucking pair of queens. Fuck it. I went all-in. Yes, I went all-in on a motherfucking pair of queens with an Ace kicker. $31.25 on a motherfucking pair of queens.
Yea, I lost. I didn't expect two people to call me! I mean, I didn't think I was going to buy the pot, but I thought maybe the person who was most likely to call me wouldn't have anything better.
They both did.
Yea, I got whooped.
So, bye-bye to the $400, bye-bye to the $120 we put in, and bye-bye to a normal sleep cycle for the next couple of days. We got home, I crawled in bed, and slept like a rock until 12:30PM.
I did win a 4th place prize, though - a Texas Hold 'Em poker set, complete with chips and cards - we gave it to my parents today since my mom wants to learn to play. Unfortunately, next month we'll be on vacation, so no poker night for us until June. Maybe we'll take our poker chips and cards with us on vacation!!!
