As if I Needed to Remember Why I Hate Windows

I've been running Virtual PC to keep some Windows apps I was using. I've been keeping them mostly out of laziness on my part. I update a website for my boss, and I started doing it about 6 years ago, when I was using Windows and NetObjects Fusion. Fusion is a nice little app, nothing fancy, easy to use. But when I switched over to Mac I was shit out of luck. I did eventually get Dreamweaver for my web editing needs, but I never transferred the site from Fusion to Dreamweaver.

Then last week, I downloaded Zuma - I wanted to try to get it to work on VPC. It didn't. It was very bad. I ended up getting the Blue Screen of Death, and couldn't use the Control menu to do a CTRL-ALT-DEL. So I shut down, and discarded any hard drive changes.

Bad move.

I had an update to do today to my boss' site, so I fired up VPC. Lo and behold, I get a "No OS Found" error. Everything was gone, including the OS. Luckily, I had a backup of all the files, but I had to reinstall the OS.

Pain. In. The. Ass.

When I upgraded my Mac from Jaguar to Panther - it was a breeze. It took very little time if I remember right - no hassles. Of course not, I wouldn't expect any with a Mac. Well, reinstalling Windows 98 on VPC reminded me exactly why I ditched Windows in the first place. Installation took me about an hour (just installing Windows, not actually installing VPC), including 3 restarts. Three. Restarts. Then it had to look for hardware. Then it had to look for plug and play devices. Then it had to restart again. Then I had to reinstall Fusion. And restart again. Now, an hour and a half later, I finally got my boss' website updated.

I should just get my ass in gear and transfer all of the sites I did in Fusion to Dreamweaver already. I'd like to ditch VPC and Windows completely and forever.

Thank goodness for Apple.
